Get ready for semester with books, travel and supplies

At the start of the semester, several one-off costs often arise at the same time: books, transport, copies, materials, technology, or fees. Without preparation, everything falls into the first month and makes the start unnecessarily tight.

Starter package instead of individual stress

  • Create a starter list four weeks in advance: books and scripts, semester ticket or other transport costs, copies, writing materials, calculator, laptop accessories, lab coat, sports or excursion fees. Add a rough amount next to each item. Realistic estimates are better than calculating down to the last cent.
  • Spread the total amount before the semester begins: Turn the list into a planned expense. If this makes the starting month too tight, split the amount over two months: one part before the semester begins, one part in the first month of study. This keeps the remaining amount at the end of the month visible before cafeteria meals, everyday expenses, and leisure activities are added.

A semester begins in a more relaxed way when the typical starting costs are visible as a package. Not every expense can be avoided, but its impact on the month can be planned in advance.
